You need to visit the official website of UPSC at www.upsc.gov.in to find the notification regarding Civil Services Examination 2017.

 

  1. How do I apply for the UPSC Civil Services examination 2017?

You can apply for the UPSC Civil Services exam only through the online mode by l visiting www.upsconline.nic.in

 

  1. When is the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary exam for 2017 scheduled?

The exam is to be conducted on 18th June 2017.

 

  1. When is the last date to apply for UPSC Civil Services exam?

The online applications can be filled up to 17th March 2017 till 18.00 hours.

 

  1. When and how will I receive the hall ticket for the examination?

The hall tickets will be available for download on the official UPSC website three weeks prior to the examination (Last week of May onwards). You have to, therefore, keep note of the ID generated while applying for the examination.

 

  1. When is the UPSC Mains examination scheduled?

The Mains examination is likely to be conducted from 28th October 2017.

 

  1. How many attempts do I have for UPSC Civil Services examination?

The number of attempts for

  1. a) General category candidates is six (6)
  2. b) OBC candidates is nine (9) times.
  3. c) There is no limit on the number of attempts for the SCs and STs.
  4. d) Differently-abled aspirants have been allowed a relaxation of 10 years and nine (9) attempts.

 

  1. What is the minimum and maximum age limit for attempting the UPSC Civil Services examination?

The minimum age is 21 years, while maximum age limit with regard to attempting for Civil services examination is

  1. a) 32 years for general category,
  2. b) 35 years for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and
  3. c) 37 years for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST)

 

  1. How many vacancies are there for the UPSC Civil Services examination this year?

The total number of vacancies stands at 980. This is the lowest in the past 5 years and hence the level of competition will be even higher.

  1. Should I pay any fees to apply for the UPSC Civils Service Examination?

Candidates (excepting Female/SC/ST/PH Candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay fee of Rs. 100/- (Rupees One Hundred only) either by remitting the money in any Branch of SBI by Cash, or by using net banking facility.

About Prelims – The Objective type Examinations- “ This exam is meant to serve as a screening tests only”.

 

About Mains – The descriptive type of Examination -“ Marks will not be allotted for mere superficial knowledge. Credit will be given for orderly effective and exact expression combined with due economy of words in all subjects of examination.  The questions are likely to test a candidate’s  basic understanding of all relevant issues, ability to analyse and take a view on conflicting socio-economic goals, objectives and demands The candidates must give relevant, meaningful and succinct answers.”

 

About Personality Test/ Interview : “The object of interview is to assess the personal suitability of the candidate for a career in public service by a board of competent and unbiased observers. The test is intended to judge the mental calibre of a candidate. Some of the qualities to be assessed are mental alertness, critical powers of assimilation clear and logical exposition, balance of judgment, variety and depth of interest, ability for social cohesion and leadership, intellectual and moral integrity”.
